Richard Nixon resigned 11 days before I was born, and believe it or not, the recipient and I have him to thank for the fact that all of our care was 100% paid for through Medicare. During this entire process, over 27 appointments across a variety of medical professionals and different testing labs, I only received one errant bill and it was immediately corrected by the transplant clinic (side note: if psychologists get paid even a fraction of what was billed, encourage your kids to enter this profession if they show any interest whatsoever). I had no idea about this program prior to six months ago, but my experience in a federally run healthcare bureaucracy was entirely positive. Maybe if we can do it for kidneys we can look at including some other organs or even whole bodies down the road?
